چکیده

One of the major interests in soil analysis is the integrated evaluation of soil properties, which might be indicators of soil quality. Unsupervised methods of multivariate statistics are powerful tools for this integrated assessment and can help soil researchers to extract much more information from their data. A multivariate study was carried out in three farms from Guaı́ra, State of São Paulo, Brazil. Conventionally managed plots that intensively utilized pesticides and chemical fertilizers were compared with both non-disturbed forest areas and alternatively managed plots. The latter were under ecological farming employing effective microorganisms (EM) integrated with crop residues. Eight soil parameters were determined for each plot. Hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA) was used to verify the similarity among the plots. The multivariate approach of principal component analysis (PCA) allowed us to distinguish the areas as a function of the soil management and determine which are the most important parameters to characterize them. The forest areas presented higher microbial biomass with lower cellulolytics population than at cultivated sites. The alternative plots were characterized by higher microbial biomass and polysaccharide content with lower phosphate solubilizers and cellulolytics microorganisms colony counts than at the conventional areas. The higher observed levels of microbial biomass and polysaccharide content in the alternative areas can be attributed to the effects of the alternative soil amendment. All these effects can be clearer globally visualized with the aid of PCA, through the biplots. © 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Multivariate Statistical Method for Assessing Livestock Grazing Effects on Soil and Vegetation in Steppe Rangelands (Case Study: Steppe Rangelands of Saveh)

This study aims to assess the effect of grazing intensity on vegetation structure, soil nutrient concentrations and soil physical properties. The study was carried out in steppe rangelands of Saveh, Markazi province, Iran. Four sites with four grazing intensities including very high, high, moderate and non-grazed with the same ecological conditions were selected. To study various vegetation and...

ارزیابی کیفیت خاک در کاربری‌های مختلف زمین با استفاده از روش‌های آماری چند متغیره

The aim of the study was to investigate the effects of land use on soil quality parameters using multivariate statistical analysis. Soil samples (0-25 and 25-50 cm depths) were taken from three land uses in forest area of Marivan including forest, rangeland, and cultivated land. Soil characteristics of pH, EC, sand, silt, clay and CaCO3 content, water-stable aggregates and their organic carbon ...

Regional Analysis Low Flows in the Karkheh and Karoon Catchments

Analysis of low flow is one of the important considerations in any water resource project. Meanwhile, as a general idea it seems that flow control is more important than drought mitigation but it is necessary to pay more attention to drought problem in future projects. In this paper, available data for 28 selected watersheds were analyzed and then Flow Duration Curve was drew, and discharge of ...

Investigation on Effects of Environmental and Soil Factors on Establishment of Vegetation Types (Case Study: Sabzdasht, Bafgh)

This research was conducted to investigate the relationships between soil(organic matter, potassium, phosphorous, sodium, fine gravel, soil texture, EC, lime, gypsum, nitrogen) and environmental (elevation, slope) factors with distribution ofvegetation types in rangelands of Sabzdasht, located in Bafgh, Yazd province at 2012. Forthis purpose, four vegetation types were selected as follows: Artem...

Exploring the relationship between land use and surface water quality using multivariate statistics in arid and semi-arid regions

The relative impacts of different types of land use on the surface water quality are yet to be ascertained and quantified. In this paper, the influence of different types of land use on surface water quality is investigated. Rain events samples from different land use in the central plateau, Iran, were analyzed for major ions. Statistical analyses were employed to examine the statistical relati...
